I have been very Blessed to enjoy a career of over thirty years now, 10 of these spent in the UK and now just over 20 back in SA, spent largely as a social entrepreneur, and always working with women who seek to become empowered contributors to our world.
Maya Angelou’s great line ‘If you know better you do better’ encouraged me to embrace education by returning to my alma mater Epworth in 2016, to strengthen the Epworth Foundation by promoting the great value of a world-class education in the life of a young child, gifted through a bursary.
As our world now awakens to a new COVID-AND-BEYOND reality where real time and virtual meet as never before, and inspite of so much angst and agony in our world, I am evermore in awe of places like Epworth that shine as beacons on this new horizon. Today, I salute all who are part of this remarkable 122-year old institution, but given women’s month, I want especially to honour the multi-talented and multi-tasking women in and around our school who, since lockdown from March, have demonstrated my favourite women’s month quotation:
‘May we know strong women, may we grow strong women, may we be strong women’
